In a significant step towards their growth plans, Scrutton Bland are thrilled to announce four promotions across the firm. From 1 April there are three new Partners: Ben Cussons, Emma Clifton (both Business Advisory) and Simon Hurren (Private Client Tax) as well as one new Director: James Thurkettle (Corporate Finance).
The promotions see:
- Emma Clifton promoted to Business Advisory Partner. Emma has been an invaluable asset to our Ipswich office for over 20 years. Her dedication to client success and unwavering support for her team have set a high standard for excellence.
- Ben Cussons promoted to Business Advisory Partner. As a Diss born and bred local, Ben has grown the firm’s client base in Diss over the last 12 years. His promotion is a testament to his commitment to driving growth and delivering outstanding service.
- Simon Hurren promoted to Private Client Tax Partner. His expertise in tax planning and personalised guidance for our clients have been instrumental in their financial well-being. Simon will continue to grow our Private Client service offering.
- James Thurkettle promoted to Corporate Finance Director. James has been with the firm for over 9 years and in that time has been pivotal in driving successful transactions. His promotion recognises his outstanding contributions to our firm and specialism in US GAAP audits.
These promotions reflect the outstanding contributions of these individuals to both their clients and our firm. Each of them has consistently demonstrated a high level of expertise, dedication, and a supportive attitude towards their teams.

The promotions mean that the firm now has an 16-strong Partner team and come alongside the news that they have secured investment from Sumer, a top 15 UK accountancy challenger practice that invests in accountancy firms across the UK. Scrutton Bland becomes a regional Hub and forms part of Sumer’s strategy to form like minded Hubs throughout the UK, focused exclusively on the SME market.
