Scrutton Bland has boosted their Ipswich Audit team with the appointment of Steven Burgess as a Director. Steven has recently joined the East Anglian firm to further assist the firm’s growth strategy.
Steven specialises in providing audit services to owner-managed businesses and corporate clients, including UK subsidiaries of overseas entities. “An audit is about more than regulation and compliance,” Steven comments. “Wherever possible I aim to add valuable strategic advice to the reporting process.” He continues: “The role of the auditor is changing, and the past couple of years have accelerated that development and the way in which we work. Now more than ever before, auditors must use their knowledge and practical experience of a broad range of businesses to add insight and advice that goes beyond compliance requirements.
With over eighteen years’ experience auditing and advising businesses and their owners, Steven has been a chartered accountant since 2008 and is a fellow of the ICAEW. He adds: “Building up strong relationships enables me to proactively offer the appropriate guidance to help commercial clients work most effectively. A significant number of businesses are currently facing enormous challenges and a good auditor needs to understand the business they’re working with. The Partners at Scrutton Bland encourage their staff to have a voice, which is a great corporate strength, and I’m really excited to be joining them to help continue the business to grow.”
Sue Gull, one of Scrutton Bland’s Audit Partners commented: “We are keen to capitalise on the strength of our audit department and this appointment adds to a number of senior postings in our Corporate Services division. Steven joins a team which already has a breadth of audit and commercial knowledge alongside many years of experience, ensuring a sound compliance process is the basis for wider commercial advice.”
